The main functions of the Wood Physics Group can be divided into research and education. The majority of research activities are carried out within the framework of doctoral studies and concentrate on
  • macro- and micromechanics of wood, wood composites and adhesive joints
  • non-destructive testing
  • effects of moisture and heat and their transport in wood and wooden materials
  • bonding of wood
  • structural investigation
In most of the projects, our own lab equipment is used (for details see Infrastructure). In special cases, we benefit from our project partners in Switzerland (Paul-Scherrer Institute, Empa – Materials Science and Technology, Berner Fachhochschule), Germany (Technische Universität München, Dresden Technical University, Max Planck Institute, Fraunhofer Institutes), Austria (University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences, Vienna University of Technology), Sweden (Lund University) and Australia (Ensis/CSIRO Melbourne).
